Last night saw the launch of the #YB4YB appeal for a new mobile outreach provision. Young Bristol is hoping to raise £90K in our 90th year for the new mobile youth provision, bringing our high quality youth work to even more communities across the city!
Ongoing funding cuts mean increased restriction and pressure on local authorities to provide additional youth services. For 90 years Young Bristol has been bridging the gap in providing safe, social spaces for young people to turn to, keeping them away from crime and anti-social behaviour. We run eight clubs in Bristol and have many more in our wider clubs network. Many children live in areas with no youth clubs or provision. A youth bus is a mobile youth club – small, cost effective and can get to the hard-to-reach areas in the city and rural areas. We just need the support of the people and businesses of Bristol to help us raise the money.
For the launch, the YB staff team were joined by trustees, the fundraising committee and invited guests at The Merchants’ Hall, Clifton. We were delighted to see so many people attend in support of the appeal. There were lots of inspiring speeches from our chair Jamie Cameron, our new President Jonathan Webb, and Councillor Anna Keen who all did an excellent job highlighting the importance of the services we offer through Young Bristol.
On stage we also had young person Jack talking about his experiences as a club member at Hartcliffe Club as well as one of our trainee instructors Gemma who discussed her journey from National Citizen Service to Instructor Training Scheme to employment at the SS Great Britain high ropes course.
A total of 14K was raised in donations last night which includes money raised by Chris & Shelia Patterson’s amazing efforts in completing this years’ London Marathon.
