We have a big announcement! But to do it justice, we need to rewind a few weeks.
When the team went into the Breakfast show at Heart West Country, we thought we were going in to record an interview about the amazing amount of money Global’s Make Some Noise raised to fund a new Creative Arts Project.
The Breakfast team then took us completely by surprise when they revealed the cheque and it was for £90,000. So much so that it took us a while to cotton on that it was true and when we did, we were completely overwhelmed. You can see us go from complete shock to elation in under a minute in the video of our reaction below!
This money will fund an entirely new project to Young Bristol which will provide access to Art workshops for disadvantaged young people through creative and community engagement activities. The Arts sessions would run weekly in North and South Bristol, in Hartcliffe and Sea Mills, where we will increase youth participation in the Arts and Cultural sector. Participants of the sessions will engage with Neighbourhood Partnership Meetings and Forums, engaging in community networks to identify issues that are important to them and addressed through creative means. We want to empower young people to engage with their communities to encourage positive social change through the creation of self-driven community arts projects.
Not only will the money raised fund this exciting new programme, but it will also support our new mobile youth provision, the Youth Club on Wheels, for an entire year. We raised the funds needed to purchase the new provision in 2018, our charities 90th year, but this money did not include the running costs of the bus. These extra funds mean that we can run a service which will reach an extra 500 young people a year in Bristol and the surrounding areas. The new provision will officially launch on the 8th of May 2019 at the Station.
We mean it when we say that this funding and support from Global’s Make Some Noise and Heart will massively improve the lives of young people in Bristol and means that we can continue our vital work across the city.
Thank you specifically to the whole team at Heart including Troy, Ed, Paulina and producer Jay for their support. Thank you to the team at Global Makes Some Noise and to everyone, including Jamie Theakston who walked 7 marathons in 7 days, who raised funds for the campaign. It is so, so appreciated and we can’t wait to get started with the new projects.
