A free scheme that aims to train young people in a variety of outdoor activities, including Kayaking, Canoeing, Rock Climbing and High Ropes.
Young Bristol’s Instructor Training Scheme (ITS) aims to train young people in a variety of outdoor activities, including Kayaking, Canoeing, Rock Climbing and High Ropes.
The free scheme runs one evening session per week, one full day of activities a month and three residential trips per year, aiming to fit around existing work and college commitments.
Aimed towards 16 – 23 year olds who are lacking direction, ITS offers the chance to get skills in outdoor activities, gain qualifications in outdoor pursuits, meet new people and try a range of new activities.
Completing the Instructor Training Scheme can offer young people improved work opportunities and as a general rule, trainees who enrol and attend regular sessions will be able to work within the industry after a year of training.
Completion of the scheme gives trainees the opportunity to become an instructor with Young Bristol Outdoor Activity Centres.
This is a very practical course of training. There is a little paperwork but predominately it involves practising outdoor activities in all conditions, come rain or shine!
