Sports programme receives funding from Persimmon

Young Bristol is thrilled to receive £1,000 to support our sports programmes at our Community Youth Clubs across Bristol.

Young Bristol has been awarded the gift from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, as part of the housebuilder’s Building Futures campaign.

Our sports and outdoor activity programmes positively and sustainably impact the lives of children and young people aged 8 – 17. This donation will be used to buy new sports equipment so that sessions can resume when it is safe to do so.

Lucy Saunders, our Development & Fundraising Manager said:

“We’re delighted to receive this money from Persimmon. This year we have had over 20,000 contacts with young people, delivering over 2,000 sessions.

“Obviously lockdown has curtailed our activities. This money will help us buy the equipment we need so that we can resume as soon as we are able.”

Persimmon is giving away £1million through their Building Futures programme. The campaign aims to support community groups working with under-18s across three categories – education & arts, health and sport.

A total of 128 grants of £1,000 will be awarded across Persimmon’s 32 regional businesses to improve local facilities and the delivery of vital community projects.

Three initiatives will go on to win £100,000 each through a national online public vote. The winners will be named at a gala dinner for finalists in October.

In each sector – education & arts, health and sport – as well as the £100,000 first prize, there will be a £50,000 second prize and a £20,000 third prize, while a further 87 shortlisted projects will each receive £5,000.

Carly Spear, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “We’re pleased to be able to help the charity, which does tremendous work in keeping young people across Bristol active.

“Building Futures is all about assisting groups which are working to offer positive opportunities to young people – and Young Bristol definitely fits the bill.”

The Building Futures grand finalists are set to be announced shortly. Thank you Persimmon for your valued support!
