Road to River Duathlon raises over £5,000 for Young Bristol

Events

Now more than ever before, young people and families across Bristol need the support of charity’s such as Young Bristol. And with many charity’s facing the impacts of the current pandemic, vital funds need to be raised to support the future of our work.

Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October 2020, saw Bristol-based Corporates and individual supporters come together to take on Young Bristol’s first ever Road to River Duathlon, raising vital funds to support the increasing demands for the charity’s work.

Like many organisations across the UK, these have been challenging times for Young Bristol, having to rethink and adapt how we can continue to engage with the most vulnerable young people that we work with. This is where the charity’s new Duathlon with a twist has had a big impact, not only raising vital funds, but also reminding our supporters of the huge benefits of Young Bristol’s work.

Jamie, who took part in our Endurance Event said, “It was fantastic to experience the benefits that young people get when they are taken out on the harbourside, trying a new experience and enjoying the views and nature within our city… it was a great reminder of the value of Young Bristol’s work.”

The Road to River Duathlon tested the fitness levels of 12 participants, putting them through their paces cycling the scenic routes on the outskirts of the city, before canoeing down the River Avon taking in the many sights of Bristol’s waterways.

The event took place across the weekend, with the longer 84km Endurance Event on Saturday 17th and the shorter 40km Sprint Event taking place on Sunday 18th October.

Lee Williams, Chief Executive at Young Bristol said, “The continued support of those in our city and the funds raised is hugely appreciated by Young Bristol, as well as all of the children and young people we help. I would like to thank the Young Bristol staff and volunteers who made this fantastic event happen at such challenging times.”

Following the success of this year’s event, we hope to run the fundraiser as an annual event, giving even more athletes and supporters the opportunity to take on this fun fitness challenge with a difference.
