New Walking Football programme launches at Community Youth Clubs

Enjoy a kick about at Age UK Bristol’s new Walking Football sessions, in partnership with Young Bristol.

Age UK Bristol and Young Bristol have come together to deliver a new programme of Walking Football sessions for people 55+ across Bristol. The partnership which launches w/c 10th May 2021, will see sessions take place at Young Bristol’s Community Youth Clubs, which are under-utilised whilst children and young people attend school.

Walking Football is, as the name suggests, a version of football where players walk instead of run. The project will offer people 55+ the opportunity to get involved with a low-impact version of the sport that they love; supporting them to keep fit and socialise with like-minded people.

Karen Lloyd, Active Ageing Bristol Manager says, “These walking football sessions are ideal for over 55’s but open to all ages of people who may enjoy the game at a slower pace. We are delighted  to offer this new opportunity in partnership with Young Bristol and hope the sessions will lead to more people keeping active, learning new skills and making friends in the community.”

Lucy Saunders, Young Bristol’s Development and Fundraising Manager adds, “Young Bristol are passionate for our venues to become a vibrant hub for the whole community to benefit from. We look forward to developing this work with Age UK Bristol, providing positive opportunities that will connect communities.”

Sessions will be led by Qualified Coach, Jeff Dickens and will take place:

  • Every Monday, 10:00am – 12:00pm at Ashton Vale Club for Young People, Silbury Road, BS3 2QE (sign up)
