Today we are celebrating the #PowerofYouth and the young people who say #iWill to making a difference!
Power of Youth Day is an annual celebration of the contributions children and young people make to society through volunteering and social action. It’s a chance to spotlight the achievements of children and young people in the #iwill movement and beyond – through volunteering, mentoring, peer education, campaigning, and fundraising.
Young Bristol’s Community Ambassador programmes have been working with 42 young people throughout 2020-21, supporting them to make a meaningful positive difference in their community.
The social action programmes in Whitchurch & Hengrove and Brislington, funded by Clarion Housing Group and Sovereign Housing Association, have worked with the groups both online and face-to-face throughout the pandemic, encouraging young people to take responsibility for their actions, and supporting them to deliver positive projects in their communities.
The group of children and young people have created tokens of good will which were delivered to elderly members of the community, spreading positive messages during lockdown. The group of Ambassadors are now volunteering their time to litter-pick in their local community, as well as exploring nature by planting a new community garden.
We will continue to support young people to play an important role in community life.
