We are incredibly proud to share that Young Bristol has been recognised in the 2021 Bristol Young Heroes Awards.
The Bristol Young Heroes Awards recognises and celebrates the valuable contribution of young people aged 11 – 19 throughout Bristol. The awards also recongise groups and organisations which have shown exceptional team skills and dedication to benefit young people.
This year’s shortlisted candidates from Young Bristol are:
Gabe a member of Young Bristol’s Kayak Club, was nominated by Outdoor Activity Instructor Lisa for his incredible fearlessness and self-motivation to overcome significant barriers. “Joining the club has been transformative for Gabe. He has loved learning the skills involved and socially being part of a regular group of kayakers. His self-esteem and confidence have grown enormously,” says Gabe’s mum. “Some aspects of kayaking like being out in the dark or going through unfamiliar fast water requires an extra bit of courage for someone who is severely visually impaired. Sporting activities, especially team sports at school can be very trying and demoralising for someone with visual impairment. Kayaking has given him a belief in his sporting abilities.” Congratulations Gabe for being a finalist for the Sporting Hero award!
The Young Bristol Team throughout 2020/21continued to provide positive and empowering opportunities throughout what was a challenging year, delivering online services, working directly in local communities and providing valuable resources to support families at home. It is because of this passion and dedication that we are proud to be finalists for this years Team of Heroes award!
Congratulations to all of the young people and groups who are finalists for this years awards – we wish all candidates the best of luck! The Bristol Young Heroes Awards ceremony will take place at We The Curious on Friday 1st October 2021.
