Young Bristol were thrilled to partner with Bristol Cathedral and other city-wide organisations for The Big Jubilee Lunch on College Green, on Sunday 5th June to celebrate HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Young Bristol has been celebrating HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee throughout May and June, delivering a programme of Jubilee Activities across our Community Youth Clubs including bunting and badge making, Jubilee bake offs, fancy dress and sports tournaments. The month of May saw Ashton Vale Club for Young People, Avon Youth Club, BS14 Youth Club, Hartcliffe Club for Young People and The Grove @ Bedminster Down get involved with the celebrations, welcoming over 300 young people engaging with our programme of events and activities.
To kickstart the Jubilee weekend on Wednesday 2nd June, our Chief Executive, Lee Williams DL attended the lighting of Bristol’s Beacon at Cabot Tower. The event marked HM The Queen’s service throughout the United Kingdom, enabling local communities, individuals and organisations to pay tribute to her as part of the Platinum Jubilee weekend. The Bristol Beacon was illuminated using solar-power batteries – a sustainable and environmentally conscious event that created a display worthy of The Queen’s long and historic reign. The event was also attended by Young Bristol’s Patron, HM Lord-Lieutenant Mrs Peaches Golding OBE CStJ.
On Sunday 5th June, communities from across the city came together for a day of fun, food and festivities at The Big Jubilee Lunch. The Big Jubilee Lunch encouraged communities across the country to celebrate their connections and get to know each other a little bit better.
The event saw local charities and good causes such as Young Bristol, provide family friendly games and activities throughout the day to people of all ages. The Young Bristol team welcomed young people and their families in their hundreds to take part in games, sports activities, and creative activities with our staff team and Youth Workers. Over 300 Jubilee-themed badges were made at the event!
At the Big Jubilee Lunch, Young Bristol also showcased on our Youth Club on Wheels a new video highlighting young peoples and the wider communities ‘Thoughts on the Jubilee’. The video explored how people are celebrating the Jubilee, what they think about HM The Queen and whether they think it is important to celebrate the Jubilee. Hear from young people at our Community Youth Clubs and members of our Ashton Vale Club for Young People’s Silver Social Club.
Thank you to the young people, families and communities who joined Young Bristol to celebrate HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
