Young Bristol were thrilled to attend the Children and Young People Now Awards, where our Youth Club on Wheels had been nominated as a finalist in 'The Youth Work Award'!
The Children and Young People Now Awards showcase innovation and outstanding practice across the children’s services sector. Young Bristol joined organisations from across the sector at the Awards gala on Thursday 28th November, at the Novotel London West in Hammersmith, to champion the vital work that our services provide to children, young people and families.
Young Bristol's Youth Club on Wheels was nominated for 'The Youth Work Award', which highlights initiatives that have done the most to promote young people’s personal development and help them achieve their potential. The Young Bristol team were proud to be finalists for the award alongside children's services from across the UK.
Our Youth Club on Wheels has made a significant difference to the lives of over 603 young people across Bristol, North Somerset and Bath & North East Somerset in the short space of five years. The impact of this work and time dedicated by our staff team to these young is profound and life-changing.
Street-based youth work is at the core of what this service does – the mobile youth service works with young people aged 8 – 19 in hard-to-reach areas of Bristol and surrounding rural areas, where there is currently no youth provision. The pioneering service provides creative, multi-media, sports and social action projects and activities, job and homework support, a place to make new friends, and a safe place to talk with trained youth workers.
The Youth Club on Wheels acts as a bridge between school and homelife for young people. The beauty of this provision is its versatility and how it can become what young people and their community needs. From a safe space to meet up and spend time with their friends, to taking part in educational and inspiring activities, or gaining much-needed support from our Youth Workers – the service aims to be a beacon for young people.
During July 2023 - June 2024, the Youth Club on Wheels saw:
· 284 sessions delivered which saw 1,738 attendances with young people ages 8 – 19.
· 363 young people were supported and engaged with the provision during July 2023 – June 2024.
· 10 communities were supported, with 3 new communities receiving a youth provision during this period.
Thank you to our funders, supporters and delivery partners who have supported this initiative since its launch in 2019; your help allows us to continue providing our vital work to young people across the city! You can find out more about our programmes and opportuntiies for young people here.
